So you have landed a first date with the guy or girl who you’ve been in contact with on your favourite dating site…If you’re after more than just one date there is much to consider!  Before you head out the door on The Night, here are some pointers to keep you from spoiling your first meeting…

For the Girls:

Choose an outfit you feel comfortable in but does have the “wow” factor!  Don’t try to portray an image of yourself that is not you.  A bit of cleavage doesn’t hurt, but don’t pair it with a shorter-than-short skirt.

Avoid lip gloss – the sticky texture gets in the way at the all-important First Kiss!  A nice slash of lipstick or lib balm with a soft colour is more than sufficient.

Don’t overkill on the scent! – it will only leave your date gasping for breath!  A light dab behind each ear is more than sufficient.

Do eat something before you leave, even if it is just a small sandwich.  When you’re nervous, it can be easy to drink too quickly and end up getting tipsy before the dinner has even arrived.  Lining your stomach means you will soak up some of that alcohol!

Talking of alcohol, try not to overdo it – you will only leave a bad impression if you end up singing songs or falling over!  Worse, if he is a bad egg he might try and take advantage.

Take a cab number – this will be vital in case you can’t find a cab to hail.  You want to know you can get home easily and safely…unless s/he’s joining you!

For the Boys:

Relax – before you go, try and relax.  Don’t have a few drinks though as they’ll smell it mile off and it might put them off.

Don’t mix deo with scent – a golden rule for all men.  In an effort to keep sweat and smell-free, you might reach for the Lynx and then drown yourself in aftershave.  Try to use a non-intrusive deodorant and a splash of aftershave will more than suffice!

Do be a gent!  Most women will appreciate a man who takes the lead – check she likes the venue you’ve chosen, do be thoughtful.  Good manners are still appreciated in today’s modern era!  If you’re a perfect gent with her but have a loud go at the cab driver, she’ll be left with an impression of how you might be with her in the future!

Check your Breath!  Pop a mint in your mouth before you leave your home, then have another!  A slug of water to go with it really helps to make your breath mintier than ever.  S/he will not want to kiss you if you smell like a cheese factory.

Don’t be Pushy – The date might be going well, but don’t be pushy about taking the evening further.  You’ll only leave them running a mile!  If you sense sex is on the card, approach the subject gently to avoid embarrassment…

Do Open Up – Listen to her but do reveal a bit of yourself.
